December 7, 1963: Six leading Mau Mau generals come down from the Mount Kenya forest and pledge their loyalty to the Prime Minister Jomo Kenyatta at his home in Gatundu and discuss the terms of amnesty offered by the Prime Minister to the fighters still hiding in the forests. They were Field Marshals; Mwariama who was overall commander of more than 5,000 Mau adherents in the Meru District, Acholi, Salimu, Kivamba, Kaiugi and kabui, a kamba from Kangundo, who was the chief forest gunsmith. Here, Field Marshal Mwariama with the prime minister Kenyatta (right) during the visit on December 7, 1963.
