June 17, 1980: President Daniel Arap Moi invests Mr. Humphrey Slade (right) as a Knight of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John at State House, Nairobi. As Patron of the Order in Kenya, President Moi conducted the investiture on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, citing the Order’s virtues of prudence, temperance, justice, and fortitude. Mr. Slade, a former Speaker of the National Assembly, accepted the honour with humility.
